The ladies from my parents' church all banded together and produced a pile of "Southern" recipes as a wedding gift. Isn't that thoughtful? Here's one of them, which I plan to try out this weekend.
1 cup soft butter
2 cups brown sugar
2 beaten eggs
1/2 cup buttermilk
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon each baking powder, baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped nuts
1 teaspoon vanilla
Beat butter and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in buttermilk and eggs until light and fluffy. Stir dry ingredients together, including nuts; add to egg mixture and blend well. Stir in vanilla. Drop spoonfuls of dough 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets. 15 minutes at 350 or until golden brown.
